[Quick Tip #4] Scale QT application on HiDPI displays.

You may have noticed that some applications (qTox in my case) does scale properly even if the desktop environment is properly configured.

Indeed QT5 applications need an environment variable to define the scale to use.

To set it on Arch Linux, create a startup script in /etc/profile.d/qt-hidpi.sh :

export QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=2

Make it executable :

And you are done.

Don’t suppose you use Audacity/GIMP/Inkscape at all?

I’m still failing miserably to get a way of making them scale – now I’ve found this trying to work out if they’re also QT based. I’ve checked out the Arch Linux wiki but it seems to veer towards system wide scaling, and gnome seem to do a great job elsewhere!
